New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will be placed on the 15-day disabled list after suffering a non-displaced fracture of his left hand Tuesday night

Rodriguez was hit by an 88 mph full-count pitch from the Seattle MarinersFelix Hernandez in the eighth inning of the Yankees’ 4-2 loss at Safeco Field. Rodriguez left the game and was replaced by Jayson Nix.

“It’s a tough blow. Tough blow,” Rodriguez told reporters, according to the New York Daily News’ Mark Feinsand.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters that there will be no timetable for Rodriguez’s return until Rodriguez is examined by the Yankees’ team doctor in New York. The initial diagnosis is a fracture of the fifth metacarpal on the left hand.

“He’s upset,” Girardi told reporters, according to the Yankees’ website. “He wants to be out there. We’re not going to have him and we’re going to have to find a way.”

Hernandez hit three Yankees on Tuesday, all in the seventh and eighth innings: A-Rod, Ichiro Suzuki and Derek Jeter.

The Yankees could use a platoon of Nix and Eric Chavezat third base while A-Rod is out, or they could acquire an infielder before next Tuesday’s non-waiver trade deadlin

THE BIG THREE MEET WITH GEORGE

    ==================

You  three of you clowns, Joe, Brian and Hal, I want to speak to you.  Leave that dummy Hank outside.  “Let’s start with you Hal.  You pussy,  your heart is not in it.  You have become a cheapskate.  All these stiffs you allow Cashman to pick up..  Come on in to my office so I can take you over my knee.”  “You Cash, come over here.  Did you actually say that you got Chad Qualls to replace Cory Wade

on the Michael Kay Show?

This chimp  is better than Qualls.  This stiff has a 4.97 E.R.A. and he has given up 49 hits in 38 innings.   Qualls is a pile of .  Release him immediately or I will ring your neck.  Clay Rapada and Baffoon Logan, that’s the best you can do.  Oh I forgot you got this guy          Feliciano.  How many innings has he pitched?  No, let me answer  .  Now that A-rod is out, are you going to look for a quality player or bring in another  bum?”  “You Joe, get in here.  You spineless, milk toast unimaginative  excuse for a manager.  Why is Granderson and his 116 strikeouts still batting second?  If A-Rod was not hurt, I would ask you why he was still batting third and fourth.  What about Ichiro? Why isn’t he hitting 2nd?  Why does this team show no heart?  They don’t deliver.  You have to get on them and motivate them.  They can’t move runners over or get them in.  If I was still in human form, I would replace you with   this guy!   You three knuckleheads better get it together.  EDB

YANKEES LOSE MORE THAN GAME…

VS    =    (1).  The game.  The Yankees had King Felix on the ropes.  But as usual, they could not deliver.  Frankly, this is getting sickening.  They cannot and do not deliver runners from third with less than two outs.  They do not hit with the bases loaded and generally in the clutch!  They frankly, show no heart.  This loss again shows what is wrong with this team and why I do not believe that they won’t advance in the playoffs.  Even more frustrating is both Rapada who walked the first lefty and got an out on a well stung ball by a lefty, thanks to Robinson Cano who almost borke his hand diving for the ball.  Then Boobe Logan walks another lefty.  In the middle of this fiasco, Chad Qualls, who simply sucks, had to walk Montero intentially, because he immediately got behind him.

2. More sickening was the injury to A-Rod.     I kill him more than anyone.  The last thing I wanted to see was Alex get injured.  It’s time for retaliation and since the Mariners’ best player is now with the Yankees.  Let’s hit this guy.    Yes Montereo, their best hitter.  Three Yankees batters were hit.  The word has to be spread to the A.L. that you had better watch where you are throwing.  EDB

HEY JOE…WAKE UP AND BE FLEXIBLE AND USE YOUR IMAGINATION…

Hey Joe (not the Hendrix song,) if I have your ear.  Curtis Granderson is NOT A NUMBER 2-2-2-2-2-2- hitter.  Because he scored a lot of runs last year and it excites you to have power in the number two spot, you won’t make a change.  Curtis has struck out 114 times so far.  He is hitting in the .240s.  He struck out against Kevin Milwood, I believe two times last night.  I think his other strike out was against a reliever.  To be fair Grandi’s runs scored could approach 136 which he accomplished last year.  Curtis struck out 169 times in 2011 and it looks like he will eclipse that  this year.  Ichiro, if he gets on base for the Yankees and he is hitting over 20 pts higher than Granderson, would score a lot of runs.  Most importantly, he might be able to move Jeter over (second to third.)  After that is anyone else’s guess.  It is time to shake things up, Joe.  Don’t accept that the Yankees are a home run hitting team.  Try something new.  Work on the little things, while the Yankees walk away with the A.L. East.  I am not asking you to bunt Andruw Jones.  But ad nauseum, talk to your players about their long swings with two strikes and hitting the ball to the right side, with a man on second and no outs.    (A)    (B).  CHOOSE A OVER B.  EDB

RANGERS GET NASH…

Rick Nash derby comes to a close as Jackets’ winger joins the New York Rangers

The Rick Nash derby has finally come to an end. The power forward will be turning in his blue jacket for a blue shirt and joining the New York Rangers. As team TSN reports, (with Darren Dreger first breaking the news and Bob McKenzie completing the package) Nash heads to the Big Apple in exchange for Artem Anisimov, Brandon Dubinsky, Tim Erixon, and a 1st round pick.

According to Aaron Portzline, the Jackets will also be sending 3rd pick and 6’5″ defenceman Stephen Delisle to the Rangers.

Kudos to Scott Howson for getting close what he wanted, even if he had to throw a few items back to get it. Back in February, when he failed to acquiesce Nash’s trade request at the deadline, we learned that he had a very high asking price in mind: two NHL-ready players and two prospects. While no one offered a package that met his demands, Howson seemed undeterred, and refused any sort of rollback.

He really couldn’t afford to. This was always going to be the deal that defined Howson’s tenure in Columbus, as Rick Nash has defined the Blue Jackets to this point. He’s been the face of the franchise, and if Howson was unable to bring back anything else that could soften a face-losing blow, he’d be in tough to curry any favour going forward, especially after a season in which he himself lost more face than Harvey Dent.

Still, while he effectively achieved the number of pieces he asked for, I can’t say this is a win for Howson, and not just because that’s a sentence I’ve grown accustomed to not writing.

Anisimov and Dubinsky are decent top-six options, but neither are the sort of franchise forwards Howson was clearly looking for when he drew snickers asking for guys like Logan Couture and Jeff Skinner from the Sharks and Hurricanes. No Stepan. No Kreider.

But hey, Columbus fans might really like Anisimov’s rifle-shooting celebration, what with how they fire a cannon every time the Jackets score.

Howson did achieve his goal of bringing back more than one NHL-ready forward, however. “If we do complete a trade,” he said two weeks ago, “We’re trading out a 30 to 40 goal scorer. Defense is probably the strongest part of our team if we look at it today. So we’re looking to get some NHL forwards back first and foremost.”

And he didn’t do too bad on the futures front, either. Erixon’s the Rangers’ top defensive prospect and 1st round picks can turn into valuable prospects, regardless of what Columbus’s draft record would have you believe.

But all in all, there’s nothing here that will get Columbus fans excited about seeing Rick Nash leave town. That’s a loss, even if losing this trade was seemingly inevitable and Howson didn’t lose it as badly as he might have.

As for the Rangers, well, they have Rick Nash now, and they still have a ton of cap space, so that massive contract won’t stop them from doing anything else.

Brad Richards now has a serious power winger to play with, and their firepower up front is formidable. With Chris Kreider showing that he’s ready for the next level, that’s two very large wingers that John Tortorella can throw over the boards.

I’m sure he’s downright giddy at how much shooting lane they’ll take away.

Why Hockey on my Yankees Blog?  I cannot post general happenings.  I wanted to scoop this deal.  Finally I want to point out to Knucklehead # 1    and knuckle Head # 2
