New York Yankees: A-Rod Parties With Playmate Girlfriend as Arbitrator's Ruling Is Expected Soon

COMMENTARY | New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez hasn’t been sitting around his Miami condo as he awaits an arbitrator’s ruling in his PED-suspension case.

Rather, A-Rod has been partying like a convict with just a few days of freedom before having to report to prison.

After spending New Year’s eve in the French West Indies with his playmate girlfriend, A-Rod partied at a Jay Z concert in Florida before flying to Los Angeles to attend the BCS championship game.

I think most athletes would want to stay out of the spotlight if they were awaiting what could be the death knell signaling the end of their career. Not A-Rod. He not only gallivanted around. He used Twitter to document his adventures.

Last week, A-Rod attended a Jay Z concert in Sunrise, Fla., near Fort Lauderdale, with Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado and San Diego Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso. Along with a photo, A-Rod tweeted, “Great time at the Jay Z show last night with @YonderalonsoU and Manny Machado!”

According to NJ.com, A-Rod and Machado each grew up in Miami while Alonso played baseball at the University of Miami.

Days before the concert, A-Rod was in the French West Indies with girlfriend Torrie Wilson, where the two were spotted walking the beach before New Year’s eve, according to celebrity gossip website Just Jared.

I guess A-Rod needed to get away for a few days, but not long enough to miss Auburn vs. Florida State.

This weekend, A-Rod and Wilson were spotted in Los Angeles, where A-Rod tweeted a picture of himself with a group of people he described as high school classmates outside the Rose Bowl, where he presumably watched the BCS championship. A-Rod and Wilson headed back east this week, according to the Daily News, which published a picture of the couple boarding an airplane out of LAX.

It’s unclear if A-Rod is back home in Miami or in New York, where arbitrator Fredric Horowitz’s ruling is expected soon. But the Daily News is reporting that A-Rod will seek an injunction staying his suspension if Horowitz upholds commissioner Bud Selig’s 211-game ban.

Sources told the News that they believe A-Rod’s legal team will ask a Federal judge to issue an injunction that would allow A-Rod to report to the Yankees’ spring training camp in Tampa next month and play when the 2014 season begins while they argue for A-Rod’s suspension to be overturned. By the time it’s over, Yankees officials will likely be the ones needing a break from the seemingly never-ending A-Rod saga.

As I’ve previously written about, A-Rod and Wilson are a perfect pair, as A-Rod appears to be borrowing a page from Wilson’s wrestling playbook with every odd tweet and ill-advised lawsuit he files.
