The Meties will wait out the shortstop market, but could move quicker in trying to add bullpen depth.
According to a source, aware of the Coupon’s plan, the Mets will sign or trade for a lefty reliever by the time the Winter Meetings conclude in less than three weeks.
Naturally, the possibility of top free-agent reliever Andrew Miller becoming a Mets target is nill. The team is expected to look at a tier two below Miller in a market that includes names such as Phil Coke, Joe Beimel and Craig Breslow.
There also is the possibility the Mets could look to bring back Dana Eveland, who was effective for much of the season after signing with the club in spring training.
