The Atlanta Braves traded Jason Heyward and have listened to offers for Justin Upton, the Braves outfield could be different in 2015. .According to a report’s, Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis has sparked interest with the Braves.
The Braves have expressed interest in the Orioles outfielder who just turned 31. Here is what Jon Heyman wrote on Tuesday:
“Veteran outfielder Nick Markakis, who seemed for a while to be a pretty good bet to return to the Orioles, is listening to outside offers now and said to have interest from the Braves,Blue Jays and Giants, among others.”
Markakis is a native of Georgia and still has a home there. He is also a leadoff hitter, which the Braves could certainly use.
In 2014, Markakis hit .276 with 14 home runs, 50 RBI and .729 OPS in 155 games for the Orioles in 2014. He won his second Gold Glove award for his work in right field.
Markakis has played for nine years and proven durable over the past two seasons after missing 58 games in 2012. He also bats left, which would help fill the void of Heyward.
The Blue Jays and Giants along with the Braves as teams interested in Markakis. There is also the possibility he returns to Baltimore.
If signed by Atlanta, Markakis would immediately boost the Braves’ lineup. It could also signal they are not rebuilding for 2017, as some have suggested.
