David Robertson IN trying to get an extended, large contract from the New York Yankees, are using the Astros Astros believe Robertson and his agent to get the Yankees to budge.
“They think he is using the [Astros] for leverage,’’ a person familiar with the Astros said.
Another source added added, “It sure sounds like it was for leverage. He doesn’t fit with the Astros.”
In Robertson’s first season as a closer when he replaced all-time saves leader Mariano Rivera, Robertson did so with few blow-ups.
The Yankees want Robertson to return , but if they can’t reach an agreement with Robertson, The Yankees will look elsewhere. If the Yankees cannot reach a deal with Robertson, it will be one more thing the Yankees will have to worry about as they go to San Diego next week for the 2014 Winter Meetings.
