Matt Kemp has been traded to the Padres in a move that has been on the horizon for a year. Kemp is headed to The Padres, with a chance to start fresh as the franchise player he once was. (Although, who in their right mind wants to play for The Padres.)
Kemp had more trade value than outfielders Crawford or ethier, so that’s why The Dodgers traded him. The Dodgers will continue to pay some of Kemp’s salary, and since the Padres are a division foe, that could be particularly tough if he’s knocking in runs against them.
Dodger fans have had a love-hate relationship with Kemp the last few years. Right now, many fans are mourning the end of Kemp’s days in Dodger blue, and with them in mind, Kemp sent out the following goodbye message nia instagram:
It is with a lot of emotion that I say goodbye to the city and the fans who have been there since the beginning of my career. You have given me so much. Your faith and support for the last 9 years through good times and bad, homestands and home runs was showcased through the volume of your cheers and the love for your team. I’m thankful to the Dodgers organization for taking a chance on an Oklahoma kid. I believe we control our paths. The paths we take, control our destiny. I’m excited for the future. God Bless
