Everyone in Baseball knows that The Phils are trying to rid themselves of Ryan Howard and his enormous contract. The Phils were trying to move Marlon Byrd to The Padres, at the Winter Meetings. The Phils tried to attach Howard to The Byrd trade.
Howard, 35, ranked among MLB’s least valuable players in 2014 and is still owed $60 million through 2016. The Phillies will pick up a huge chunk of Howard’s contract to get rid of him.
Marlon Byrd, aged 37, is under contract for the 2015 season only and is owed $8 million. Byrd’s 2016 option can become guaranteed at the same price if he has 550 plate appearances next season.
