Miley Cyrus Hits the Studio With Flaming Lips to Record Beatles Cover

Singer and band are teaming up on “Lucy in the Sky With  Diamonds”

After performing together on the Bangerz tour, Miley Cyrus and the  Flaming Lips are taking their mutual appreciation fest into the studio to record  a Beatles cover.

Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne spread the news over Instagram on Friday,  posting a photo of Cyrus rolling a joint in a recording studio (with  conspicuously placed Bangerz-branded rolling paper). “Yup……  Recordin with Miley… High as fuck….” he wrote in the caption.

On Sunday, Coyne posted another photo of Cyrus, this one embellished with a  sparkles and a few more clues about the project. “Miley in the studio vomiting  diamonds while singing Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds!!” he wrote. “If you’re a  Beatles and John Lennon freak you gonna love love love this track!! Got Andrew  from MGMT too!!!!”

Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd joined Miley Cyrus onstage during her show at  Los Angeles’ Staples Center last month to perform the Flaming Lips’ 2002 song  “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 1.”

Earlier this month, the Flaming Lips announced two  special releases for this year’s Record Store Day: a 12-inch vinyl edition  of their hour-long 2011 single “7 Skies H3” and a silver 7-inch cover of Devo’s  “Gates of Steel” dedicated to Devo’s late guitarist Bob Casale.
